WhO WE Are
ProArteDanza is a professional repertory dance company driven by the principle: Passion in Performance. We share this outlook with our growing and diverse audiences through our performance, community engagement, and training programs.
Under the vision of Artistic Director, Roberto Campanella and Artistic Associate, Robert Glumbeck, ProArteDanza is a dynamic artistic venture that since its inception 16 years ago, has garnered a reputation for producing performances of high artistic standards and production values.
Born and raised in Rome, Roberto Campanella trained at the Scuola Italiana di Danza Contemporanea. In 1993 he joined The National Ballet of Canada, then made his choreographic debut at the 1995 Choreographic Workshop, followed by graduating with distinction from the National Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program.
Roberto was awarded the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Choreography with co-choreographer, Robert Glumbek, for …in between…, which premiered at ProArteDanza’s Season 2010. More recently Roberto choreographed for the Academy Award winning The Shape of Water and was awarded the Empire Community Award from the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, the Dance Spirit Award for Outstanding Cinematic Choreography and the 2018 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award.
Upon graduation from Bytom State Ballet School in Poland, Robert Glumbek joined The Great Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Warsaw as a soloist. In 1987, Glumbek came to Canada and worked for a variety of companies – including Theatre Ballet of Canada in Ottawa with Larry Gradus, the Judith Marcuse Company in Vancouver; and Myth Productions with Learie McNichols.
Robert became Artistic Associate of ProArteDanza in 2004 where he has since created a number of acclaimed original works. He has also created works for Mannheim Ballett, princess productions, Toronto Dance Theatre, Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, CCDT, Arts Umbrella, Ryerson University and York University.
